When Your Water Heater Appears to Have Stopped Working

Depending on whether the water heater is gas or electric, the problem could be in the gas valve or heating element. It's important to turn off the electric or gas until a plumbing professional can check out the problem. As there may be high voltages associated with this part of the heating system, it is NOT recommended that you do any investigating unless you're really familiar with water heaters.
